BERLIN, Mar 14 (PRIME) -- Germany plans to become independent from Russia’s coal imports by September and to reach an almost complete independency from Russian oil before the end of 2022, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck said in an interview with daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published March 12.
“We are working every day and sometimes every night in order to cut dependency on Russia’s oil, coal, and gas. … If we manage to do that, we will have become independent from Russia’s coal by this autumn and almost independent from Russia’s oil by the end of the year,” Habeck said as quoted by the daily.
“The situation with gas is more difficult as we have no capacities of our own for LNG (liquefied natural gas) imports. We are doing that under high pressure right now,” he said.
At the same time, there are no grounds for Germany to believe that Russia will stop exports of energy sources, even though Berlin is preparing for all possible scenarios, he added.
